Drum Racking

Drum racking is a cradle setup that allows drums or barrels to sit horizontally and securely in a selective racking system, preventing them from rolling around. The design means a tap can be fitted to the drum so liquids can be dispensed straight from the rack, whether it’s oil, detergent, or other liquids.

You’ll typically find it in businesses that are mixing or dispensing materials, anywhere from cleaning product manufacturers to oil distributors. Because it’s hands-on work, it’s never installed too high, generally under 2.4 metres so it’s easy to reach.

The cradles are usually built into a standard selective racking frame, about 2.6 metres wide, with each drum weighing roughly a tonne. Most setups allow two drums per level. These are often installed in a bunded area to contain any spills or leaks.
